Exposing a new instrument to a new audience through new music
As a contemporary musician who has always been looking for the technical limits of the instrument, I designed a prototype of the 'Quarter-Tone Accordion', which was built in February 2020, by Bugari Armando s.r.l. Unipersonale, in Italy.
The aim of this project is to create repertoire for the quarter-tone accordion by commissioning a number of works by various composers and to explore this instrument as a vessel for new music whilst arguing for its role on the microtonal spectrum. It is my belief that the Quarter-Tone Accordion successfully accommodates the expanding sonic vistas of today's artists.
